"Who Do You Think You Are?" Gets Second Season
Posted by Diane

Woo-hoo! NBC has given “Who Do You Think You Are?” the green light for a second season.

From the NBC press release:
"Who Do You Think You Are?" from executive producer Lisa Kudrow is averaging a 1.6 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers overall in "most current" results for its season thus far. In preliminary results for last Friday, "Who Do You Think You Are?" won the 8-9 p.m. ET hour in adults 18-49, marking the first time any regular competitor in this slot has beaten an original episode of CBS's "Ghost Whisperer" in 18-49 rating since November 17, 2006. "Who Do You Think You Are?" has improved the time period by 23 percent in adult 18-49 rating versus NBC's average for the traditional 2008-09 season in "live plus same day" results.
You can watch “Who Do You Think You Are?” episodes on NBC.com.

I've been surprised by both the number of people viewing as well as the diversity of the viewing audience. Isn't it wonderful that genealogy is getting such a boost. And, isn't it ironic that the celebs are discovering what all of us already know - - learning about your family history is incredibly empowering!

I was so pleased to see this show as I have been doing my family genealogy since 1984. Are you going to only have celebraties looking for
their ancestors, or do you plan to have non-celebrities, like ordinary
people looking for their family roots?
I am glad to see that the show has been picked up for a second season.
Friday night has been dull for me until your show aired. Keep it up!

I am so glad to see NBC showing some sence and putting good programing on for a second season! It's about time. This is terrific news for every genealogist, and wonderful for our families to see what we do and why.

I wonder how much this show will inspire newbies to genealogy to get started on their own family history. I really have been enjoying it too.

I'm soooo happy they're renewing this program for a 2nd season! Some very moving episodes. For those who want to see a similar program with "ordinary" people and who have access to BYTV, check out "The Genealogy Project". Think it's on Monday nights with re-broadcasts several times during the week.

I love this show!!! I have been doing my family tree since 1981 and I couldn't be any more consumed by it than I am now. I even got my Mother into watching the show. I wish they would choose regular people like myself and other's to be on the show rather than celebs. KEEP THIS SHOW GOING!!!

Love the show. Glad to hear there will be a second season. I think it would be fun to have some 'ordinary' folk on, and they could apply for selection on the show -- or maybe a show with 2 or 3 vinettes of family to be continued on another episode.

Glad to hear we will be able to enjoy another season of "Who do you think you are?" My genealogy hobby (addiction) started in 1986 with a trip to the library with my grandmother. She is almost 90 and still enjoys working on our family tree. We both enjoy watching the show together, brings back many memories for her. Thank you!!!!

I'm thrilled to see so much interest in genealogy on TV! It's just wonderful that NBC sees the value in quality family programming and the populace is responding by watching! I feel like we've all been on the cutting edge of this for so many years, and now I can only hope that this show will inspire more people to research their roots. And like the comments suggest, it would really be interesting if the show used more ordinary people for their production. Sure, celebrities are interesting, but I don't think it's a critical component of the show.

I am soooo thrilled about the second season of this show. I wait all week for Friday night so I can watch it. I have learned so much about other cultures and parts of the world. It touches my heart when I see these celebrities find out their heritage. It is refreshing to see that they care about their ancestors and family history. Thank you so much and keep up this wonderful work.

This is great news about have the show picked up for a second season. It seems every time I start enjoying a great, entertaining program it is taken off the air. Having the celebrities on the show doing their research was important to get people interested in the program in the beginning. I wonder how many of us ordinary people have found out what famous person they are connected to? Maybe turn the tables around - it could be interesting. All in all I have enjoyed the show very much. Thank you so much!

Hooray! I'm thrilled to hear that the show will run another season. I look forward to it every week and have told everyone I know to watch. They report back that they love it.
