Genealogy Resource Confusion? New Online Directory Promises Help
Posted by Diane

Genealogy Today’s Illya D’Addezio tells me he’s in the final steps of creating an online genealogy directory that’ll let you find and access multiple resources from one place.

Using the free Live Roots site, which launches Oct. 10, you can search a variety of genealogy databases and publishers’ catalogs, and learn where information from the same resource exists in multiple places, online and off.

With the same genealogy information frequently printed in books and hosted on numerous Web sites in a variety of forms (indexes, transcriptions, record images, narratives, etc.), this tool may help you sort out the confusion—and show you where to find the actual records all that data came from in the first place.

You'll be able to search Live Roots on a name, place or other keyword, then link to the online resources, learn how to access the offline ones, or click to commission a researcher who can get a record for you.

We’ll spill more details about the site as they’re available.

Hello Diane,

This news about a online genealogy directory is great but if you actually what to search multiple resources (1400 databases) with one click, the best place to go is MyHeritage.com where you can use FOR FREE the "MyHeritage Genealogy Research Tool" (www. myheritage. com/research) and search for a particular name or person with one click.

My best regards to all

Hi, Daniel,
Thanks for mentioning this helpful resource! Just in the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to let readers know you're the Genealogy and Translation Manager at MyHeritage.

WOW, great idea!
I'm all for having more FREE search sites available. Especially now that genealogy is becoming more popular. I've found that requesting copies has become expensive.
I know I'll be checking it out!
Thanx for the heads up.

Well for me it's mind boggling to even think of the unlimited sources "out there" I use a coupla' subscription sites and of course butt my head against numberous brick walls. When I go to other sites for some relief, I find myself continueing to go down the road so to speak - getting lost amongst all the links that present themselves.

I do find "stuff", as evidenced by a full hard drive, back up drives and 5 four inch loose leaf binders; as well as another 6 three or two inch binders with birth, death, marriage, obits, news articles, census images, letters, pictures.

Just mind boggling
