Tonight on "Who Do You Think You Are?": Reba McEntire
Posted by Diane

Tonight on "Who Do You Think You Are?" country music superstar Reba McEntire learns how her family came to America.

You can read a litle about McEntire's ancestral journey in this Tulsa World article (McEntire grew up on a ranch in Chockie, Okla.).

Here's a preview of the show in which McEntire learns family information from D. Joshua Taylor, formerly of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and now chief genealogist at FindMyPast.com.

Taylor explains a bit about why names appear spelled differently in historical records and hints at some "very interesting things" happening in one of the counties where an ancestor of McEntire's lived—I guess we'll have to watch the show to find out what those things are.

And here's McEntire in Chesire, England, searching for records on an ancestor who was baptized there in 1688—and seemingly sent away to the American colonies at just 9 years old.

Watch "Who Do You Think You Are?" on NBC tonight at 8 /7 Central.

Interesting that the research guide in Cheshire, England, makes Reba wear white gloves to handle the old books and documents, while he just uses his bare hands. What is that about? He should be giving the good example, but he failed.

The white glove issue has arisen regarding previous episodes, too. See http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ROOTS/2010-03/1268082417 for one example of a posting. Many archivists actually recommend against gloves because they decrease the tactile ability of the fingers and can cause you to damage a document or page in a book. The archivist probably washed his hands before handling the documents.

Has anyone looked for B W Brasfield on the internet? Looks like to me they used the Brasfield genealogy that is posted on the internet. Byron Walter Brasfield son of General Jackson Brasfield. Should they have given credit to the Brasfield Genealogy website?? I know, I know it's only a tv show, bla bla bla.
