The one thing on my genealogy to-do list for 2011 is to research the Detroit City Directory for 1940 to gather addresses for my family members. Then, when the National Archives in Chicago opens on April 2, 2012, I will be ready to use their finding aids to locate my family members on the microfilms of the 1940 U.S. Census. I like to plan ahead!!

My number one goal for 2011 is to get my certification paperwork completed and turned in.
Thursday, 07 October 2010 11:12:03 (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
The one thing on my genealogy to-do list for 2011 is to:
research for one of the emigrants in my family: Johan August Johnson, who emigrated 1892 from Borås, Västergötland. I have been searching a lot and have found his two siblings who also emigrated,(I have also found their famliys) Emil emigrated from Sweden 1882 and Jennie Amalia who emigrated with Johan August in 1892. I would also love to continue and help people who have Swedish roots, I can search in all parishes in Sweden.

Best Regards from

One of my major goals for 2011 is to get an appointment with the CT Department of Health (there are only 4 appts per week allowed) to research the marriage records and hopefully find two sets of my great-grandparents. I have narrowed down the time period within 18 months for both sets, but cannot find them at the town level.

Thanks for the chance to win! The one thing I'd like to do in 2011 is finish the documentation to join the Huguenot Society. It's been difficult working with "burned" county records to find what I need.

Hoping for a subscription to for Christmas so I can get through the "brick wall" trying to find my husband's Scottish relatives. It seems like none of them kept any records!

One thing that I want to do in 2011 is to enter in the new children in the family into our family database.

One of my 2011 projects is to make contact with someone connected with the Harford Fair in Harford, PA to see what more they can tell me about Fowler Peck (one of my "brickwalls") who donated the land where the fair has been held for over 50 years.

Good question. Top of my to-do list is to actually sort and enter all the information I've collected and put in piles. Once that is done, I will have a much clearer (I hope) picture of what to do next!!

I want to get into the basement of our local Catholic Church and copy all my family records there. It is easily assessable and close by - so I have been putting it off.

The one thing that tops my list of "to dos" for 2011 is to find my McCarton family who came over from Ireland in the early 1800s. So far all I have found is brick walls, but I am stubborn! I know that there are records somewhere that will help me, so I will just keep digging.

What I would like to do in 2011 is to track down my paternal side of the family. My parents divorced when I was a baby so I know nothing of my fathers family. All I know is my paternal grandmothers name but nothing else. I would love to find out what my paternal grandfathers first name is since he legally changed his surname after being in the Chain Gang in Georgia. I'm only a 2nd generation "Stuart" and would love to find my "Haywood" roots!!

I want to brake through a couple of brick walls. Grandparents on my mother and fathers side came from Ireland and certain records have been hard to locate.
I have my maternal grandfathers marriage certificate but not his birth certificate. I also have my paternal great grandfathers naturalization papers but have not located he or his wife in Ireland.
I will join a local genealogy society that meets every month.
I also plan on spending more time at the local Latter Day Saints Center and travelling to the Pittsfield Library and NARA in Massachusettes.
These walls are coming down.

DIGITIZE!!! My records, my photos -- and anyone else's, in the family, who will let me; my research log, my dog, my cat, my husband ... well, maybe I won't have enough time in in *one* year. But isn't that just like family research? It never ends, which is why I need a genealogy calendar.
Thursday, 07 October 2010 16:06:22 (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I think my biggest goal is to be more consistent with my time. My biggest regret is being so hot and cold with my genealogy. I'll spend two months doing nothing but genealogy, then take three months off. So I guess I really just want to manage my time better!
Thursday, 07 October 2010 16:06:53 (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
My number one goal is to find a way to scan and organize, on my computer, copies of all the papers and pictures in my documentation files (plastic file boxes). Ultimate goal to share them with my family on CDs.

I have been at a brick wall with my great-great-great grandfather, he came to America in 1845 and was registered at a local church at one of the 1st of 20 members to join, but by 1850 I can't find him. So I plan to re-start my research in 2011 to find out just what happened to him.

in 2011, i really plan to find out which of several wrays in nashville 1790 is the father of my ancestor samuel wray born 1821. there were several brothers that signed the nashboro compact, but i am having a heck of a time figuring out which was his father or possibly grandfather. i'll be traveling to nashville and spending a week there to work in the archives and also using dna results from my father and another wray researcher that matched on 37 alleles. i also hope to find the father of my husband's ancestor caleb lemons of jackson co, tn at the same time

One thing we'd like to do is make it back to Fayette Co, PA to research both some of my beautiful wife's line that she's stuck on but also mine that I've found to have lived there at one time. One other thing I'd like to do is to document enough of my line to be admitted to the SAR on one of the three ancestors that were Revolutionary War Veterans, a long dream of my father.

My goal next year is to try and locate a death record for my great-great grandmother, Catherine Mathieson Stacey (born: Scotland, abt. 1858) and died either in Ontario, Canada or somewhere between there and North Dakota! I have absolutely no idea how to go about it, already had one volunteer researcher look in records in Ottertail County, Minnesota with no results. This is what makes genealogy fascinating and frustrating!

The one thing on my genealogy to-do list for 2011 is to join a subscription database, at least for one year, to get more info than found already by usual means to the various lines of research in expanding my genealogies. Time to break a lot of brick-walls and connect unlinked families (with a calendar to keep focus). Thanks

I would like to find the origins of my 2nd great grandfather, John A. Burke. Supposedly he arrived in the port of Boston about 1835 from Ireland, county unknown. He married Sarah Chandler in 1846.My great grandfather, Francis A. Burke was born in Boston? in 1848. John Burke came to California about 1850. His wife and son followed 2 years later. I can not find info on John's arrival in Boston, his marriage or the birth of his son.

One of my 2011 goals is to locate my husband's birth family and add them our family tree-so far this is a major roadblock. As well as trying to locate my great-great grandfather on my Mother's side-I have a name-Duran Moore-but not one shred of history on him, since he didn't marry my great-great grandmother, although they did have two children before he disappeared....

My goal for 2011 is to get what I have organized. Hoping to meet some of my family on my dad's side I had never meet. And visiting family gravesites. Just stared doing this and it's so fun and exciting. I hope to get my kids to help so they will know where they came from. I'm just now finding out myself. My mom never told me anything about either side. So since she passed away I'm learning things I never did. I get so lost that I forget the time and what day it is. But who cares when your having fun. My Ultimate goal is to be able to leave my kids some family pride in where they came from.

My goal to take a special weekend vacation with my husband and research our family the ALFONSO 'S who immigrated from Campobasso, Italy and then Faria / Vital/ Pacheco family who came from Brazil and Portugal at Ellis Island. I'm so excited about researching my family that it feels like Christmas all over again. My favorite thing is scrapbooking and this hobby falls right into place.I came across a cousin who was also researching our family and he sented me pictures of our family I never knew about. That really made my day! How fortunate
my children are to actually see five generations of relatives with names to their faces. PAT

My goal is to finish writing a middle-grade novel based on my great grandfather. He grew up in Detroit in the mid 1800's. It was a time when Detroit was known as the Paris of the West. Thomas Edison was a newsboy and had a train car for a laboratory. My great grandfather was an inventor too only his patents were stolen from him which is the main theme of my story.

This year, I will attend the 'Grain of Wheat Ceremony' in Middletown, PA, Dauphin County, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Kierch. My DAR patriot, David Gotlieb Ettle, walked from Middletown to Philadelphia and back with his friend, Christian Roth, and petitioned the emisary of King George III for permission to build the church in Middletown. This was done in 1754. They built the church, and the rent was fixed as 5 grains of wheat for the land that the church occupies. The rent still holds, and every 5 years, there is a ceremony when the rent is paid, usually by a descendant of the founders of Middletown. During the Revolutionary War, David signed the original Letter of Intent, and then provided food, forrage and animals to the Continental Army. His sons fought with the Pennsylvania Militia.

My number one goal for 2011 is to reconnect. I want to find living relatives in my family tree and reconnect to share with them the genealogical gems that I have found. My family reaches back to the 1700s, but I think it is important to reach out to those alive to share, get information, and to make a connection. I have already sent letters to my Great Grandfather's living grandchildren (who would be my 2nd cousins). I have already received one letter and some suprising news of a relative being alive that I assumed had passed. Off to a good start!!

that I know is not documented. Another of my goals is to finish entering all my records that I already have into the computer on my FTM . But genealogy is really a never ending thing, it can go on and on. As long as theres life theres genealogy info to gather.

My goal for 2010 was to have my family history completed by Christmas for my family members. I do not think I'm going to make it, so that will be my 2011 priority. I've been working on it, off and on, for years, and now I'm 86, so there is some urgency to complete it. After that, Mary Ann Pierson (b.1816, NY) and Samuel Moore (b.1762, probably NJ) need to have their ancestors discovered. Then there is the organizing of my many notes and printouts. In fact, I can relate to most of the above for my to do list!! So much to accomplish!

I recently attended a workshop on the topic of organization. The speaker was very inspiring and I immediately went home to begin to use his method. Of course this meant redoing my entire system. I now have half of my research in his style and half in mine, since I would rather do research then clean up my files. My goal for 2011 is to complete the clean up and finally get all this paperwork off my desk. :)

For 2011, my to do list includes trying to find more info on my mother's mother. I don't even have her birth certificate after years of trying. She was very closed mouthed about her personal life and history....maybe there is some deep, dark secret there!

My list includes finding records of my great grandfather. I was told he had a heavy brough accent and most felt he was German; however, he claimed he was from Luxembourgh. I am determined to organize my genealogy files in a better way - I am the "family" historian and have all kinds of information, family trees and photos that people have sent me, in addition to what I generate. What’s one thing on your genealogy to-do list for 2011?
One thing on my genealogy to-do list for 2011 is to go back through my files and re-read everything. I entered information so quickly that I think I may have missed some things. After reading articles on genealogy, I see that there is information in birth, death, marriage, newspaper, land, census, and tax records that I might have missed. This will take some time, but it is #1 for me!

My goal for 2011 is to hopefully continue to break down my brick wall(s) on my Smith lines. My mother maiden name was Smith and she married my father also a Smith. Neither of these lines yet connect.

Recently I found a death date for my second cousin posted on a family tree on the web. I called my cousin and asked if she had heard that second cousin Helen had died, and my cousin said she hadn't heard a thing about it. Fortunitly, Helen was alive but had moved and I just got a lead to were she is. The week end staff at the rest home couldn't find her in theirs but they have three so first thing Monday, I'm looking my my oldest Living relative. The other ones can wait awhile being they most likely aren't moving. It was a good reminder for me to visit more often.

For the year 2011: I would like to put my ancestors pictures into frames and hang them on the wall. That way I could think of them even more often. Perhaps they would remind me to keep looking for new information. They are doing anything just sitting in a drawer!

We plan to visit our son and daughter-in-law in Germany and search the books and graveyards in the area where my ancesters are from. Have printed maps of the towns and located graveyards. Talked to family and gotten actual addresses so can take pics of ancestral homes. There may even be some new relatives to meet. Very excited to do this. My husband has lung cancer and is trying very hard to be well enough to travel to Germany. It is an uphill battle. Our genealogy research and new finds keep him interested in going on.

I want to keep scanning and organizing to get rid of the great jumble of genealogy-related paper I have accumulated over the past 30 or 40 years, then get the files onto DVDs so other family members can carry on the research.

I need to organize all of the info I have. I need to put it all together and make it easily accessable.

My goal is to import my database from my old software to my new program--as cleanly as possible. I've been afraid to do it!
